Every drive unit requires a control system, and so does theEP PolyDrive. As an option,EP Drive Systems can provide a complete and intelligent control system, theEP MotorControl400 (RMC400), with a protection rating of IP54. The intelligent RMC400 offers maximum control ofEP motors, whether as an independent manual control unit or in combination with a climate computer. If combined with a climate computer, the RMC400 transfers the computer’s commands to the drive unit in a controlled way, ensuring a reliable and error-free system. 

The heart of the RMC400 is a control board equipped with solid-state technology. The electronics on this control board are extremely precise and reliable. All components are encapsulated in resin, providing maximum safety and durability. The control board is fitted with various signalling LEDs for easy viewing of error codes. The RMC400 can either be supplied as a separate board, for installation in a centrally located control panel, or can be supplied in a separate plastic housing with a transparent cover. The control unit features a compact design, minimizing the installation space required. 

The RMC's unique features

The RMC includes a number of unique features that further enhance its reliability:
  • The RMC is provided with the locally required quality marks.
  • The RMC allows the motor to be controlled directly, so without the use of relays.
  • Features rotational direction monitoring, ensuring that the motors are always rotating in the correct direction.
  • Observes a 3-second delay when the rotational direction is reversed, providing extra safety.
  • Includes protection against single-phase failures.
  • The RMC can be connected to a climate computer and relay any error messages to the computer.
  • The RMC gives you the ability to 'daisy-chain' the power supply and control signal of the climate computer to the next RMC400. This allows the climate computer to control multiple RPD units with just one cable. 

Easy to install and use

The RMC400 is a breeze to install, both close to the drive unit and inside the central control panel. If the RMC400 is installed near the drive unit, the power and signal cables can be daisy-chained, saving on cabling. This is a major benefit in poly greenhouses, which usually require a large number of drive units. Since the RPD´s limit switch only needs to be connected to the RMC400, rather than the central control panel, further savings on cabling can be made. To make the installation process as easy as possible, the RMC400 comes with clear wiring diagrams (for both single-phase and three-phase power).

MotorControl ERMC50 tube motor control unit for greenhouse

The RMC50 motor control units are control boxes used to connect the 1-phase RB tube motors. In the RMC50 motor contol unit, all the electric components needed to ensure the safe operation and the safe connection and drive for a RB tube motor. The RMC50 motor control unit can be used in combination with the RB50Eplus tube motor. The RMC50 motor control unit which is built into a plastic housing unit has a glass fuse (4A) which prevents any electrical overload. The RMC50 motor control unit also has an adjustable time delay safety function (1 to 10 min). This has two functions, to prevent the failure of a tube motor that is not electrically connected at its end position) and to give an error signal when the pre-set running time has been exceeded. If the electricity supply does not disconnect when the pre-set runnng time has been reached, the motor current will be interrupted by the RMC50’s motor control unit. The error signal consists of a visible signal (flashing signal) and an integrated LED. The RMC50 motor control unit can be operated both manually and by remote control. The RMC50 has two impulse push buttons, one for manual control (on - stop - down - stop) and one for automatic selection (remote) or manual control. The RMC50 can be operated externally using a 24 V input signal (AC or DC). The RMC50 motor control unit has easily accessible clamping strips for connecting the cables. The 1-phase power voltage, the RB tube motor and a 24 V transmission signal for external control are connected to the clamping strips. The RMC50 motor control unit features 2 cable glands to feed wiring and leads to the outside of the cabinet. RMC50 motor control units: 1-phase mains voltage 230 V (50/60 Hz) version; Built into a plastic housing (protection classification IP55).

MotorControl ERMC400 control unit for greenhouse

TheEP MotorControl RMC400 is an intelligent control system for activating, regulating and protecting aEP motor gearbox with an integrated limit switch system. The compact RMC400 has a fully cast-in printed circuit board with a microprocessor and a semiconductor relay. As a result, the RMC400 is protected against moisture, dirt and vibrations. The RMC400 can be used throughout the world with 3-phase supply voltages of 208 V to 600 V and 1-phase supply voltages of 115 V to 230 V for 50 Hz and 60 Hz mains frequencies.

The RMC400 has an inverter as standard for switching the main current. It has an inverting delay of 3 seconds to prevent continued running in the same direction of rotation and to prevent unnecessarily overloading the drive. For a 3-phase mains, the RMC400 continuously checks the phase order of the supply voltage. If a change of phase is detected, the RMC400 internally corrects the phase order so that the drive's original and expected direction of rotation remains unchanged. The RMC400 also detects a phase failure. During a phase failure, activation is interrupted to prevent the electric motor from overheating.

The PTC thermistor that is present in the electric motor can be connected to the RMC400 to protect the electric motor and, consequently, the entire drive against overheating and overloading. If the RMC400 measures a too high temperature, the activation is interrupted until the electric motor has cooled down sufficiently. This prevents consequential damage and thermal cut-out.

The RMC400 is connected to the motor gearbox's limit switch system. Activation is stopped when an end position is reached. If a safety switch is unintentionally operated when an end position is switched, both automatic and manual activation in the opposite direction of rotation is possible under the correct conditions.

The RMC400 is prepared for the use of aEP PositioningUnit RPU (RW motor gearbox). The RMC400 has a 24 V DC power connection and reference position outputs (end positions).

External activation of the RMC400 is possible with a 24 V AC/DC control signal or (optional) external manual controls. The RMC400 monitors the control input. The motor gearbox is not activated if there is simultaneous activation in two directions of rotation.

The RMC400 has signal LEDs for displaying the operating status and any faults. Normal operation, activation of the safety switch, thermal overloading and phase failure are displayed via an LED signal. In the event of a fault, the LED signal remains active, even after the fault has been rectified. The signal can be reset using the manual controls. The RMC400 also includes a fault contact (NC) for external notification of a fault situation.

The RMC400 is available as a separate module or integrated in a plastic housing (IP54) with a transparent cover. Cable glands are included with the housing. The RMC400 has reliable terminal blocks for connecting the incoming and outgoing supply voltage. The RMC400 has easily accessible plug connectors for connecting the other cables.
